PANAJI: The third meeting of G20 Development Working Group (DWG) is being organised from 8 - 11 May 2023 in the vibrant state of Goa. 

Notably, DWGs' initial two meetings took place in Kerala and Mumbai. The meeting, being taken place at a resort at Dona Paula near state capital Panaji, will set up developmental outcomes which will be considered at the final ministerial meet scheduled to be held at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, an official said.

Nagaraj Naidu Kakanur, Joint Secretary (G20), Union Ministry of External Affairs, stated on Monday that "the meeting in Goa is a very important element" because "we are at that stage of negotiations wherein we are discussing the text (of the earlier discussion) with all the G20 members." It will be a difficult process with much of "give and take" amongst the nations, but he expressed optimism that the DWG would produce a convincing result. 

An exhibition held in conjunction with the G20 summit highlighted India's achievements in women-led development.  The exhibition, which is being sponsored by private businesses, NGOs, and government organisations dedicated to empowering women, was inaugurated by Kakanur.

The official stated on Monday that the DWG serves as the G20's pivot since it deals with the development mandate, which is extremely important in the current context.

“The whole world is looking at stregnthening the progress, particularly to achieve the sustainable development goals,” Kakanur said. "For one year, from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023, India presided over the G20. The G20, or Group of 20, is an intergovernmental organisation that brings together the largest industrialised and developing economies of the globe.

Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, and the European Union (EU) are all included in it.

The G20 is the most important platform for global economic cooperation because its members collectively make up 85% of the global GDP, 75% of global trade, and 2/3 of the world's population.
