Godhra: February 27, 2002, is the black date, which is still remembered by people, on this day a train was set on fire by a Muslim mob in Godhra, Gujarat. In this incident, 59 Hindu devotees returning from Ayodhya were killed and riots broke out in Gujarat after this incident. The flames of this fire were so fierce, which had also burnt the Hindu-Muslim brotherhood and the whole of Gujarat was awakened.
As many as 59 karsevaks were killed in a Godsera-bound train in Godhra, Gujarat, after a Muslim community set fire to them by pouring petrol. As of 28 February 2002, 71 people were detained in charges of arson, rioting and robbery. According to the FIR, the attack was carried out on February 27 by a raging mob of 1540 people when the Sabarmati Express train took off from Godhra station.
The Sabarmati Express going to Ahmedabad had left Godhra station after someone pulled a chain and stopped the train, and after the stone-pelting, a coach of the train was set ablaze by the raging mob of Muslims. In this traumatic event, 59 people died of severe torture, after which riots broke out in Gujarat. Godhra Municipality President and Congress Minority Associate Mohammad Hussain Kalota was arrested in March.
