New Delhi: Good news has come out for thousands of employees who come under the benefit of the Seventh Pay Commission. Taking a big decision, the government has doubled the limit of gratuity of employees. Till now this limit of gratuity was 10 lakh rupees, which has now been increased to 20 lakhs. This will directly benefit thousands of employees across the country. This order to increase the limit of gratuity is for the employees of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. Employees of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous institute set up under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, will be eligible. The government issued its order on February 24. Accordingly, it has been extended from March 29, 2018.

The government has taken this decision for those employees who are associated with Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti from 1 January 2004. This order states that the NVS Payment of Gratuity Act is now being withdrawn for Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti employees and the Gratuity Act 1972 will be implemented instead. The Finance Ministry had earlier decided to exempt gratuity up to Rs 20 lakh instead of Rs 10 lakh. From time to time, the limit of gratuity has been increased by the government on the basis of the market condition, budget of the companies, their financial condition and the ability to pay salaries to employees and salary limits. For the rest of the central employees other than Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, the limit of gratuity was raised to Rs 20 lakh in March 2018 itself.
