Sundar Pichai’s Love story is a simple tale of two souls who met in college and fell in love. If you didn’t know this already, Sundar Pichai came from very humble beginnings. He was always a simple man, even while he was living in a little flat in Chennai with his family, when he was young. There was no T.V. in the house and nor was there a car. So, Sundar Pichai began to value things from a very early stage. This spilled over into his personal life as well. 

First meeting: It was when he was in college - Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur to be precise, that he met his future wife, Anjali. He was pursuing a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. They were from the same batch and Anjali was his classmate. Initially, the duo were just friends. They kept it that way for a very long time, as they seemed to enjoy each other’s friendship and companionship. Gradually, as they spent more and more time together as friends, they realised that certain feelings had developed in their hearts. When they entered their final year of engineering, Sundar proposed to Anjali and she said yes!

Pichai recalled how difficult it was without smartphones, to call her from Sarojini Naidu Hall, the only women's hostel in the college. He said: “I met Anjali at IIT-K and she was my classmate. Just to go get someone at the girl’s hostel, you had to walk in the front and request someone to call them. And they’d go in and loudly say – Anjali, Sundar is here. It wasn’t exactly a pleasant experience.”

Love Life: After college got over, things weren’t so rosy! Sundar had to leave for the USA to study further. Anjali meanwhile, was in India, and because Sundar was not very financially independent then, the two could not talk to each other. Sundar and Anjali did not speak to each other for 6 long months! But, did that take away from their relationship? Of course not! In fact, staying away for such a long time brought them closer to each other. Absence does make the heart grow fonder!

Soon after, Anjali left for the USA as well. Sundar bagged a job with a semi-conductor firm there. With a secure job in hand, he felt that now was the right time to marry the love of his life. The decent chap that he is, he then asked Anjali’s parents for permission, before tying the knot.

After their wedding, Anjali and Sundar went on to stay in the USA. 

Live happily after Together: People often say that Anjali is Sundar’s lucky charm. Initially, Sundar was offered the post of a CEO by Microsoft. He was also contacted by Twitter and Yahoo! He was contemplating leaving Google after he received such enticing offers. However, Anjali was the one who advised him against it. He decided to listen to her and is today, as we can all see, the successful CEO of the biggest search engine - Google.

Today, Sundar and Anjali Pichai live happily in Los Altos Hills. Their home has been tastefully designed by Robert Swatt, a part of the Swatt Miers architectural group. In spite of being so rich and successful, they are often said to be living quite a low-profile life. They are the proud parents of two children, a girl and a boy named Kavya and Kiran.
