Google has unveiled its AI chatbot, Bard, designed specifically for teenagers. This launch follows extensive consultations with experts and adolescents, aiming to curate a secure yet engaging learning platform for younger users.

In a blog post authored by Tulsee Doshi, Google's Product Head for Responsible AI, the company showcased Bard's capabilities in assisting teenagers with tasks like crafting speeches or tackling math problems.

Although the minimum age for managing a personal Google Account is 13, certain countries impose slightly higher age requirements. Access to Bard will align with these regulations. Google assured that the AI chatbot has undergone training to identify and withhold unsafe content from children.

To prevent misinformation, Google will activate its 'double-check' response feature automatically for Bard when handling fact-based inquiries. However, this setting isn't currently the default for all Bard users.

Teenage users will be equipped with an AI literacy guide along with a brief onboarding video, enlightening them on Bard's underlying technology and how to critically engage with generative AI tools.

Highlighting Bard's expanded learning features, Doshi stated, "For an even more interactive learning experience, we're integrating a math learning tool into Bard. Users, including teenagers, can input or upload a math equation, and Bard won't merely provide the answer—it will furnish step-by-step explanations on how to solve it."

Google also shared a demonstration video illustrating how Bard simplifies a quadratic equation into its fundamental operations. Another clip exhibited Bard assisting a student in initiating a class speech.

The tech giant emphasized collaborating with safety experts, students, and family organizations before launching Bard tailored for teenagers.
