Google has said that some hackers tried to target the campaign of US President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, although no evidence of his success has been found. The company confirmed this after Shane Huntley, director of the company's 'Threat Analysis Group', reported on Twitter. 'Tried to target activists of Biden's campaign. Such 'phishing' (hacking) attempts usually involve fake e-mails, in which attempts to steal passwords or corrupt the devices through 'malware'.

Malware 'is a type of virus used to steal someone's identity on a computer or to tamper with confidential information. According to the company's statement, an attempt was made to breach the private email accounts of the people associated with both the campaigns. A Google spokesperson said that this has been done recently and some people associated with both campaigns were targeted. Google said it alerted targeted users and referred the case to federal law enforcement.

Graham Brookie, director of the Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab, called the announcement a major revelation of cyber-assisted campaign impact, as seen in 2016. He pointed to the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign was about to be hacked by Russia, following revelations that raised many questions over Russian interference and Trump's victory in the 2016 presidential election. There has been no comment on this recent hacking attempt by Trump and Biden.
