Google is experimenting with an exciting new feature called "Auto Dark Mode" in its iOS app, aiming to enhance user experience and browsing comfort. This experiment is part of Google's Search Labs initiative, which focuses on innovative features to improve user interaction.

According to HT Tech, Auto Dark Mode ensures that all websites visited through the Google app on an iPhone will display in dark mode if the user's device is set to dark theme. This provides a consistent browsing experience without the jarring switch between light and dark modes.

The Google app on iOS, functioning similarly to a web browser with tabs, now includes the Auto Dark Mode feature. To activate it, users can tap the beaker icon in the upper-left corner of the app. When enabled, websites will automatically adapt to the dark theme, creating a seamless visual experience. If users prefer the original look of certain websites, they can turn off Auto Dark Mode for those specific sites by clicking the sun icon in the address bar.

Google acknowledges that the effectiveness of the dark mode conversion might vary and that this feature won't affect websites that already offer a native dark mode.

Currently, Auto Dark Mode is exclusive to the iOS version of the Google app, with no release date yet for Android devices. This feature is part of a broader suite of experiments within Google Search Labs, which also includes tools like "Talk to a Live Representative," "Notes on Search," and various AI browsing tools.

These innovations were showcased during the I/O 2024 event, highlighting Google's commitment to enhancing user interaction through cutting-edge features.

Google's Auto Dark Mode aims to offer a more visually comfortable browsing experience. Although it's still in the experimental phase and limited to iOS users, it reflects Google's ongoing efforts to integrate user-friendly innovations into its search and browsing services. iPhone users who want to try Auto Dark Mode can enable it via the Search Labs section of the Google app.
