American tech giant Google has made a huge update to its Google Translate service, adding 110 new languages. This announcement, made on Thursday, represents the biggest expansion in the tool's history, bringing the total number of supported languages to 243.

This expansion was achieved using Google's in-house PaLM 2 large language model (LLM), which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to learn and incorporate new languages, especially regional dialects.

Among the newly added languages are Indian dialects Awadhi and Marwadi. This update is part of Google's ambitious 1,000-language initiative, announced in November 2022, which aims to develop AI models that can support the 1,000 most spoken languages in the world. Adding these 110 new languages marks a significant milestone in this ongoing effort.
