New Delhi: The government has taken a big decision to promote electric vehicles. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has allowed the registration of electric vehicles without pre-fitted batteries. That is, the sale and registration of electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler vehicles can now happen even without taking.

Actually, the battery costs 30 to 40 percent of the total price of an electric vehicle. The government decision will also reduce the upfront price of vehicles. Also, there is no need to specify the make/type or any other details of the battery for the purpose of registration. However, the prototype and battery of the electric vehicle must be approved by the testing agencies specified under Rule 126 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

The Central Government is engaged in the exercise of creating an ecosystem to increase the electric vehicle in the country. This will not only protect the environment and reduce the import bill but also provide an opportunity for the emerging industry. In order to encourage electrical two-wheeler and three-wheeler vehicles, the Ministry had recommended separating the battery cost (which is 30-40 percent of the total cost) from the vehicle cost. Thus two-wheeler and three-wheeler electric vehicles can be sold in the market without batteries.
