NEW DELHI: After Section 370 was revoked in Jammu and Kashmir, the government had detained leaders of political parties in the state, especially in the Valley. The Government has kept them under house arrest at different places. The Government can now release these leaders. The detention phase will be phase-by-phase. The government is waiting for PM Modi's return home. The government is likely to talk to opposition leaders after PM Modi returns from the G-7 summit. The government will also remove other restrictions imposed in the state after reviewing the situation in the state.

The Government may take this tough stand against the separatists. Their detention will continue. The Government can only release the mainstream leaders. However, the final decision will be taken after extensive consultations on the latest situation in the state. Before and after abolishing Section 370, the Government has not communicated with the Opposition so far.

Sources said the government will now talk to opposition leaders. It is not yet decided whether the all-party meeting will be held or the representatives of the government will meet leaders of different parties separately. Sources said, the PM will return home on Monday evening. After that, the future strategy will be worked out. The relief for the Government is that the Opposition is divided on this. While one section of the Opposition is in favour of the government's decision, the other is against the government's decision.
