On Wednesday, Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar said that the central government has taken several steps for the welfare of workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes giving help to more than two crore building and construction workers. Along with these efforts of the government, at this time of COVID-19 pandemic, stagnant remuneration of about Rs 295 crore have been provided to lakh laborers.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Labor, Gangwar said, "During the Corona crisis many unprecedented steps have been taken by the central government, including labor welfare and employment for migrant laborers across the country." According to this statement, The Ministry of Employment, all the State Governments / Union Territories were ordered to provide financial assistance to construction workers and other workers.

It is estimated that the majority of migrant laborers are construction laborers. The minister said, "So far, about two crore migrant laborers have been sent Rs. 5,000 crore from the building and other construction labor cess fund in their bank accounts." Significantly, to solve the complaints of migrant laborers during the lockdown, the Ministry of Labor and Employment had set up 20 control rooms across India. According to the Labor Minister, every effort has been made to make every arrangement for the workers.
