Begusarai: An officer selected from the People's Service Commission in Bihar's Begusarai has been accused of torturing his wife for dowry. Rupesh Kumar has been taken into custody by the police on the complaint of his wife. It is alleged that Rupesh Kumar had demanded a car and money from his wife. After which, a case of dowry harassment was registered.
Rupesh Kumar's wife Nidhi Kumari had lodged a case of dowry harassment and assault at Ballia police station in February 2022. After an investigation, police arrested Rupesh Kumar from his official residence in the Lakhisarai district. According to the incident, Nidhi Kumari, daughter of Pramod Kumar, a resident of Rahatpur village under Ballia police station area, was married to Rupesh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Saran Chhapra district, on March 4, 2020. The wife alleges that the husband's family members used to torture her for dowry shortly after the marriage.
The victim said that at the time of marriage, her father had given them Rs 30 lakh, as well as gifts worth lakhs of rupees. Still, Rupesh started demanding more money from his wife. When she did not get the money, he started physically torturing his wife. After which his wife Nidhi lodged a case against Rupesh Kumar at the police station. Meanwhile, the police also came to know that Rupesh had already had a marriage for money, whose trial is going on in the court. Rupesh Kumar said he had his first marriage and also has a daughter. Which she was also ready to keep with her. The matter went to court and he has been released from the High Court. After which Nidhi Kumari is married and the allegation of harassment is wrong. Neither is his marriage illegal nor does he torture for dowry. In this connection, the investigator of the case, Mohammad Imtiaz, said that he was arrested on the orders of the senior officer in the dowry harassment case.
