Central Government calls for a all-party meeting on December 2 ahead of Winter Session of Parliament, set to commence from December 4 and conclude on December 22.

The scheduled all-party gathering, usually held just before the parliamentary session kick-off, has this time been rescheduled a day earlier. This shift seems to be a response to the vote counting slated for December 3 in five states currently undergoing elections.

The outcome of these state assembly elections is anticipated to significantly impact the upcoming session, where the government aims to push through crucial bills.

One of the highlighted agendas during the session will be the presentation of the Ethics Committee's report on the alleged "cash-for-query" case involving TMC MP Mahua Moitra. Lok Sabha's adoption of this report is essential before the panel's recommended expulsion takes effect.

Another significant bill awaiting consideration pertains to the appointment of the chief election commissioner and election commissioners. Initially introduced during the Monsoon session, the government had not actively pursued its passage in the subsequent special session due to opposition and former chief election commissioners' protests. The government's intent is to align the status of the CEC and ECs with that of the cabinet secretary, currently enjoying the status equivalent to a Supreme Court judge.
