Govt enhancing mines sector output in GDP to 2.5 pc by 2030: Pralhad Joshi

Hyderabad: Union Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Friday that the  Central government has taken various measures about Ease of Doing Business to strengthen the contribution of the mines and minerals segment towards the country's GDP to 2.5 percent by 2030.

The minister addressed a two-day National Conclave on Mining Ministers in Hyderabad in a bid to deliberate on the ambitious target.

"This conclave intends to increase the GDP of the nation by 2.5 percent outside of coal and petroleum in the ensuing years up to 2030, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji.  Now, other than these coal and petroleum,  it is 0.9 percent,'' he told reporters after the inaugural session.

He said that the Prime Minister set a target of 2.5 percent to be reached by 2030, we intend to accomplish it by 2030. For that, we have implemented several steps to make doing business and making investments easier," the Union minister said.

He said the summit has been planned in accordance with the central government's ideology of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwaas," noting that the states are the ones who would implement on the ground whatever policies and regulations are set at the Center.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said India should become developed by 2047 and his clarion call is that the situation of importing goods in spite of the availability of raw materials and minerals in the country should go away, he said.

After agriculture, the mining and minerals industry may produce jobs and significant amounts of income, he said.
The minister said, "For Atmanirbhar Bharat, Atmanirbhar minerals are needed,  adding that this conclave has been organised for that reason.
