Today;ahead of the ongoing disorder in Jammu and Kashmir,the government has been extended the last date of Income Tax returns for taxpayers in J&K to 30 September 2016

According to the order issued by Central Board of Direct Taxes  has said that,"On consideration of reports of dislocation of general life in certain areas of state of Jammu and Kashmir, the CBDT, in exercise of powers conferred under section 119 of the I-T Act, hereby further extends the due date for filing return of Income from August 31, 2016 to September 30, 2016, in case of assessees in the state of Jammu and Kashmir who are required to file their return by the said due date...,"

Central Board of Direct Taxes is the Income Tax department;s mpolicy formation unit.

The government had previous comprehensive the due date for filing IT returns for J&K to August 31, from the earlier deadline of July 31.

The extension pertains to the tax returns for Assessment Year 2016-17. The CBDT had also extended the deadline up to August 5 for other assessees liable to file I-T returns across the country.
