Govt releases Health Sector Grant of Rs.8,453.92 cr to Local Bodies of 19 States

New Delhi: According to the Ministry of Finance, the Central government has given Rs 8,453.92 crore as a health sector grant for rural and urban local bodies in 19 states to build health systems and bridge significant gaps in the health care system at the primary health care level. The award was issued by the Ministry of Finance's Department of Expenditure in accordance with the Fifteenth Finance Commission's recommendations.

The Fifteenth Finance Commission recommended a total grant of Rs 4,27,911 crore to local governments in its report for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26. Andhra Pradesh (Rs 488.1527 crores), Arunachal Pradesh (Rs 46.944 crores), Assam (Rs 272.2509 crores), Bihar (Rs 1116.3054 crores), Chhattisgarh (Rs 338.7944 crores), Himachal Pradesh (Rs 98.0099 crores), Jharkhand (Rs 444.3983 crores), Karnataka (Rs 551.53), (Rs 828.0694 cr).

"Health awards worth Rs 70,051 crore are among the grants recommended by the Commission. Rural Local Bodies have been suggested for Rs 43,928 crore, whereas Urban Local Bodies have been recommended for Rs 26,123 crore "According to the Finance Ministry.
