New Delhi: The Central government has once again issued a notice to instant messaging app WhatsApp. The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has once again asked Whatsapp to withdraw its new privacy policy at the earliest. Earlier, WhatsApp had cleverly stopped its new update for a few days, but now it has brought back the policy this month. He had said that he was stopping it till May 15, 2021.
Now, in a notice sent to him, the Central Government has said that stopping privacy policy updates till the said date does not mean that it does not respect privacy of information, security of data and dislike of user preferences. In a notice sent to WhatsApp, the Central Government has reminded it that the change in its privacy policy and the manner in which it has been brought under the FAQ section ignores the rights and interests of Indian citizens. The matter is still pending in the Delhi High Court. There, too, MeitY has taken the same stand against the Instant Messaging App. It has been told that the right to protection and privacy of information and data of Indian citizens is valuable and cannot be tampered with. At the same time, he has been reminded of how he is showing his double standards by bringing different policies for the people of Europe and India.
"There is no doubt that you will be aware that many Indian citizens use Whatsapp to communicate with each other in their everyday lives," the ministry said in the notice. But, whatsapp taking advantage of this and imposing its unfair conditions is not only problematic, but also irresponsible. Especially the conditions that are biased between the citizens of Europe and India. Currently, Whatsapp has been asked to respond to the notice within 7 days. Action can be taken if satisfactory response is not received.
