New Delhi: The Modi government at the Center has taken an important decision related to the scholarship of SC students. To get a higher education, students belonging to SC category will be sent scholarships directly to the bank account, 60 per cent of which will be borne by the central government and 40 per cent by the state government.
Union Social Welfare Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha member Thawar Chand Gehlot informed the government about this decision in a press conference on Tuesday. He told that after passing the 10th, many children left higher education in the absence of scholarship. Due to lack of money with the state governments, many times they could not give a scholarship. In view of this, the central government has made changes in the scholarship available to students pursuing higher education of scheduled caste category. Out of this, 60 per cent will be borne by the central government and 40 per cent will have to be paid by the state government.
Thawar Chand Gehlot said that we will put this amount directly in the students' account. The list along with the account number of students will be called from the state governments. Its advantage will be that the students who dropout in lack of funds in higher education can be brought back to the education sector. Gehlot said that in 4 years, about 4 crore students will get the benefit.
