The Food and Public Distribution Department (DFPD)  on Sunday said that the government will be meeting all states and Union Territories (UTs) on Monday via video conferencing to review the action taken on the stock limit order on edible oil prices.

Referring to a letter written to all states, DFPD Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey, gas the Department has outlined initiatives taken by the Centre to simplify prices of edible oils for relief of consumers and keeping the festive season in mind. The Food and Public Distribution deptt is monitoring the prices of edible oils and their availability to the consumers.

This is especially significant to the context of the upcoming festival season in which demand for edible oils will increase. On October 8, the department had imposed stock limits on edible oils and oilseed up to March 31, 2020. The department had left it to states to decide the stock limit of edible oil and oilseed based on available stock and consumption pattern of State/Union Territory, with a few exceptions. a range of steps have already been taken by the government like based on the interaction with all the states and edible oil industry associations, stock disclosure notification has been issued and Food and Public Distribution Department has created a web portal to monitor the stock of edible oils/oilseeds on a weekly basis in the country.
