Govt to put up Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill in Lok Sabha Today

NEW DELHI: The Anti-Maritime Piracy Bill, 2019, was listed by the Center on Friday. The Bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha by Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar to make specific provisions for the repression of piracy on the high seas and to establish penalties for the crime of piracy and for matters related thereto.

In addition to this, a large number of private member bills have been listed, including the population control bill that BJP MP Ravi Kishan would introduce.

On Thursday, protests by opposition lawmakers over the alleged abuse of investigative agencies by the government against political rivals were seen in both Houses of Parliament.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids and summonses against the opposition figures sparked protests from opposition members in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, who were led by the Congress.

After the opposition members continued shouting loudly against the abuse of the ED against political opponents, the Lok Sabha proceedings were first suspended till 2 p.m. and then for the entire day.
