In India, the WhatsApp messaging platform poses a major challenge for the government to prevent the spread of fake news and false information. Being highly popular, the platform has made it easier to misuse it and a lot of rumours are being spread. Several cases of lynching have also surfaced in India due to rumors spread on WhatsApp. As messages are end-to-end encrypted on WhatsApp, no employee of the company except the sender and receiver can read them. It's hard to track a message. Now the Government of India has asked WhatsApp to bring a special feature but not all users will like it.

The Government of India wants WhatsApp to add a feature to its app that allows all WhatsApp messages to be 'digitally fingerprinted'. It will not reveal what is written in the message, but each message will get an identity. The government wants this feature to be introduced in WhatsApp as it will allow it to track messages sent to WhatsApp. This will determine who sent or when a particular message was first sent to WhatsApp.

For your information, the new feature will allow WhatsApp to inform the government about who sent a message first and how often the message has been read or forwarded. The good thing is that the government is not asking WhatsApp to stop end-to-end encryption.
