H.E.R. is soon going to make her cinematic debut in the upcoming film adaptation of The Color Purple, based on the Broadway musical. As per the leading daily of Hollywood, the Grammy and Oscar winner will play Squeak, a juke joint waitress/aspiring singer in the film remake produced by Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg, the star and director of the 1985 picture.

In Spielberg's film, Rae Dawn Chong portrayed Squeak while Krisha Marcano played the role on Broadway. However, during its 2015 revival, the Tony-winning musical, which starred Jennifer Hudson and Cynthia Erivo, announced plans to produce a feature picture in 2018. The film is based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel from 1982, which was adapted into a 1985 film. Rae Dawn Chong portrayed Squeak in Spielberg's film, but Krisha Marcano played the role on Broadway.
