Greece formally invites visitors for kicking off a summer season here. The country hopes to resurrect its vital tourism industry which suffered a lot in the coronavirus pandemic.

After months of lockdown restrictions, Greece opened the doors of tourism. The Euro country opens museums this week, including the Acropolis museum, home to renowned sculptures from Greek antiquity. As of Saturday, foreign tourists will be allowed in Greece if they have been vaccinated or have a negative Covid-19 report. The country allows travel between regions, including to the islands, will also be allowed for those with negative tests or vaccinations. Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis tweeted "Greece is offering what people need. Calm and care-free moments on the road towards normality."

Greece has been rolling out vaccines to its islands and hopes to vaccinate most of them by the end of June. In this pandemic period international travel has been halted, Greece suffered its worst year for tourism on record. Four islands in the south Aegean, including Mykonos, received 32 international flights on Saturday from countries including Sweden, Germany and Qatar. Corfu, in the Ionian sea, welcomed visitors from Germany and France.

A country of 11 million, has recorded 373881 infections and 11322 deaths.
