Greek military leader General Dimitrios Choupis was honored with a Guard of Honour during his visit to Delhi. The Chief of Greece National Defence General Staff laid a wreath at the National War Memorial and signed the visitors' book. The Greek Ambassador to India, Aliki Koutsomitopoulou, welcomed him, marking his visit. This visit comes after Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' State visit to India in February, aimed at strengthening cooperation in shipping, connectivity, and defense, marking a significant step forward in bilateral relations.

Earlier, General Dimitrios Choupis paid his respects at the National War Memorial and signed the visitors' book. The Greek Ambassador, Aliki Koutsomitopoulou, greeted him upon his arrival in Delhi.

In a statement, Greece's Embassy in India expressed delight at welcoming General Dimitrios Choupis to India, as he commenced his visit.

In February, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Delhi for a two-day State visit, accompanied by his wife Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis. During his visit, he held talks with PM Narendra Modi to enhance cooperation in shipping, connectivity, and defense sectors.

PM Modi emphasized the importance of collaboration in technology, pharmaceuticals, skill development, space, and innovation, while also agreeing to strengthen ties in shipping, connectivity, and defense.

During his stay in India, Mitsotakis also met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Notably, this visit marked the first bilateral exchange at the Head of State or Head of Government level between Greece and India in 15 years, with the last Prime Ministerial visit from Greece to India occurring in 2008.

PM Modi's visit to Athens last year further solidified the relationship between India and Greece, leading to the elevation of their ties to a 'Strategic Partnership' during Modi's visit to Greece in August 2023, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs.
