Green J&K Drive: Manoj Sinha launches campaign, plans to make J&K green

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha on Friday launched the 'Green Jammu and Kashmir Drive-2021' from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu. Under this campaign, 1.30 crore saplings will be planted in Jammu and Kashmir. Launching the campaign, Manoj Sinha planted a 'precious' plant in the IIT premises.

Speaking on the occasion, Manoj Sinha said that Green Jammu and Kashmir Drive aims to make the campaign a mass movement with the participation of all stakeholders, especially gram panchayats, women, students, urban local bodies, institutions, and NGOs. He said that our aim is to fill two-thirds of the geographical areas with trees. He said that forest and tree cover in Jammu and Kashmir is about 55 percent, which is more than the national average of 24.56 percent.

Manoj Sinha further said that it is a matter of pride for us that while the world is facing difficult challenges in this region at present, the people and government machinery of Jammu and Kashmir are discharging their responsibilities. Meanwhile, Manoj Sinha said on Thursday that the Union Territory is witnessing a new rural economic revolution that has never happened in the last seven decades. He said the administration is planning to set up 26 mobile veterinary clinics in the state this year as well as 800 new dairy units.
