Convener of the Group of Ministers on IGST and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi dismissed the speculation of an increase in GST rate and said that the state is not in favor of increasing GST rates. He said that consumption is very low, so this time is not suitable for reducing the GST slab. During an interaction with a media reporter, at the 92nd Annual Conference of Industry Chamber FICCI, Sushil said that there is no possibility of any change in the rate of Goods and Services Tax (GST) till the revenue stabilizes.

Sushil Modi, who also holds the responsibility of the Finance Minister of Bihar, assured that at present no state or central government is ready to increase the tax rate. Modi said, "At a time when the economy is facing a slowdown, if you cannot cut the tax rate to increase consumption then at least don't raise the rate. At such a time, you reduce the duty and tax rates, not increase it.” It is noteworthy that revenue recovery in the form of GST in India has been less than the budget estimates. In November, after a gap of 3 months, it crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore mark. Earlier in October, the GST collection stood at Rs 95,380 crore.
