Ahmedabad: The Nikol assembly seat in Gujarat's Ahmedabad district has been elected twice so far. Bjp candidate Jagdish Panchal has won both the elections. Jagdish Panchal has also been a cabinet minister in the Bhupender Patel government. The Nikol assembly seat came into existence after a new demarcation in 2008. In the 2012 and 2017 elections, the BJP won both times, while Congress suffered defeats. The Nikol assembly seat is among the newly developed areas of Ahmedabad. A large number of Patidars from Saurashtra are settled here.

The Patidar of Saurashtra has been in favour of the BJP for the past several decades. In 2012 and 2017 also, Nikol's Patidars had voted for BJP candidates. From here, BJP MLA Jagdish Panchal comes from the OBC community. In Nikol, there are very few voters of the Panchal community, yet Jagdish Panchal had no problem registering the victory because the people here vote only after seeing the lotus symbol. Jagdish Panchal is a businessman by profession and has also served as the president of the Ahmedabad BJP unit. Jagdish Panchal is in the good book of BJP's top leadership. The BJP's election symbol and organisation are considered to be the biggest reasons behind his victory.

In 2017, Jagdish Panchal was finding it very difficult to win the Nikol assembly seat as the BJP had fielded him in the Patidar-dominated area. That too was when the Patidar agitation's anger was at its peak. Nicole was also considered to be the centre of the Patidar agitation in Ahmedabad. Despite the resentment of the Patidars, Jagdish Panchal was once again elected from Nikol's seat. However, Congress youth leader Indravijaysinh Gohil gave a tough fight to Jagdish Panchal. Jagdish Panchal's victory margin was around 25,000, which was around 50,000 in the last election. But in the end, the BJP and Jagdish Panchal's seat came to the account of Nikol.
