Ahmedabad: Voting is underway for 89 assembly seats in Gujarat in the first phase. A total of 788 candidates are in the fray for these 89 assembly seats in 19 districts. These include many big names. Today, Gujarat Assembly Speaker Nimaben Acharya exercised her franchise for the first phase at a polling booth in Bhuj. At the same time, Mumtaz Patel, daughter of Veteran Congress leader Ahmed Patel, cast her vote in Alankeshwar, Bharuch. During this, she said that this election is an election of change.   

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi casts his vote at a polling booth in Surat. During this, Harsh Sanghvi said that the BJP government is being formed again. Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, husband of BJP candidate Rivaba Jadeja, cast his vote at a polling booth in Jamnagar. During this, Jadeja also appealed to the people to vote. However, during this time, Anirudhsinh Jadeja, father-in-law of BJP candidate Rivaba Jadeja and father of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, made a big statement. He said, "I am with the Congress. Party affairs are different from family. We have been with our party (Congress) for quite some time. He (Ravindra Jadeja) knows that it is a party matter and not a family matter.''

According to the information given by the Election Commission, 5.03% of the people in the state have exercised their franchise till 9 am. The highest voter turnout was recorded in the Dang and Tapi districts, which recorded 7.76 percent and 7.25 percent polling respectively. Porbandar recorded the lowest voter turnout of 3.92 percent.
