NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today said no to think of Congress plea to verify about 20% of the VVPAT paper trail with the EVM votes.
The Top court pink-slipped the plea clamming that it cannot override the liberty of Election Commission completely to conduct polls.
Following the denial, Singhvi said he was ready to scale down his petition to investigating of 10% of EVM paper trail.
The Apex court also asked Congress to explicate and show any proof for its apprehension and also demonstrate how the decision of Election Commission to count paper trial of EVMs in one booth per constituency was impulsive and illegal .
The Apex court said that debate for reform of Polls can be done after the Election process is over and allowed the Congress to pull back the petition and move with a extensive election reform petition afterward.
Before the day, Congress had moved Supreme Court in quest of directions to the Election Commission of India to count and cross verify at least 20% of the VVPAT paper trail with the EVM votes.
The petition to verify the votes was made a day after voting ended in the Gujarat assembly Polls.
