New Delhi: The story of Teesta Javed Setalvad, an alleged social activist who used the violence that erupted in Gujarat for selfish interests, is now coming to the fore due to the outrage created after the employees on board the Sabarmati Express were burnt alive in Gujarat. Huh. Now a close friend of Teesta has told how he has cheated the victims of violence. On the other hand, protesting the arrest of Teesta, the Congress on Monday (27 May 2022) has demonstrated at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

Rais Khan, who was once very special to Setalvad, has told that Teesta should have been arrested at the same time when he had complained about the fraud being committed by Teesta. Khan said that people like Teesta collect money in the name of victims and engulfed it themselves. Such people should not be forgiven. Raees Khan further said that Teesta raised funds worth crores of rupees from the country and abroad in the name of the victims of violence and did not give one per cent of it to the victims. Khan said that he also had a dispute with Teesta in 2008 over the same issue and after that, he parted ways with her.

Rais Khan has told that during the 1992 Mumbai riots, Teesta used to report in the newspaper. During that time he met Teesta. After this Teesta resigned and formed an NGO named Combat Nyay Manch. He assisted Teesta in this. After the riots, both of them lost contact. Rais Khan while talking to the media told that during the 2002 Gujarat violence Teesta approached him and sought help in the name of helping the victims of violence. According to Raees, he introduced Teesta to the victims of violence from several villages like Naroda Patiya, Sardarpur etc. According to Raees, Teesta collected funds in the name of the victims and made an affidavit in their name and presented them before the SIT and the Nanavati Commission. Raees claims that even the victims did not know what was written in this affidavit. When there was a contradiction between the affidavit and the statement, then the matter came to light.

According to Rais, when asked about giving funds to the victims, Teesta Setalvad said, 'I said, in whose name you are bringing funds, give them money. Then Teesta said that I get funds with great difficulty and 50 per cent of that is also taken by the agents who get the funds. In such a situation, from where will I give what is left, I also have expenses.' Rais Khan says that he had complained against Teesta for manipulation of donations, but Teesta's political clout was very high and she also had a high reach in the police. Hence no action was taken against her. However, Teesta was arrested following the Supreme Court's observation in the Gujarat case.
