Ahmedabad: Gujarat's independent MLA Jignesh Mevani has been arrested by the Assam Police. Mevani is an MLA from Vadgam and is a Congress supporter. It is being told that this action has been taken regarding one of his controversial tweets. A case has been registered against him under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 153(A) (promoting enmity between two communities), 295(A), 504 of the IPC and sections of the IT Act.

Mevani was arrested on Wednesday (20 April 2022) at around 11:30 pm by the Assam Police from Palanpur Circuit House. From here he was taken to Ahmedabad. It is reported that Assam Police may take them to Guwahati on transit remand. Mevani's supporters allege that the police have not yet given them a copy of the FIR. According to the report, supporters of Jignesh Mevani say that a case has been registered against Mevani in Assam, on which this action has been taken. Regarding his arrest, Mevani says that this action has been taken against him for a tweet. At the same time, Mevani has said on this matter that, 'I am not afraid of any false complaint. I will continue my fight.

According to the report, Mevani had said in a tweet that PM Narendra Modi believes in the ideology of Nathuram Godse, so he will not appeal for peace in the country. An Assam complaint was lodged against him for this tweet. After Mevani's arrest, several party leaders led by Gujarat Congress state president Jagdish Thakor reached the Ahmedabad airport. There the Congressmen raised slogans against the Assam Police. Thakor said that a complaint was lodged against Mevani for tweeting on RSS. He accused the government of intimidating Jignesh. He said that our legal team will fight for Mevani. Let us tell you that Jignesh Mevani may not have joined the Congress, but he had spoken of supporting the party.
