After this defeat, Carlsen also smiled and congratulated Gukesh. In the first round, Gukesh will face Black Mohoro and will now face Alireza Firouza of France.
According to reports, their match ended in a draw and Gukesh finished third, while USA's Samuel Sevian finished second on the basis of a better tie-break by scoring six points in the final round draw with compatriot Oprin Grigori. Among other Indian players, Nihal Sarin remained at 9th, Praggnanandhaa 15th and Adhiban Bhaskaran 18th on the basis of tiebreak with 5.5 points.
