Reports indicate that shots were fired at a residence in South Surrey, Canada, believed to be linked to Simranjeet Singh, an associate of the late Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro-Khalistan activist who was fatally shot in British Columbia last June.

According to Canadian media sources, the targeted residence belongs to Simranjeet Singh, identified as a close associate of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent figure in the pro-Khalistan movement.

Authorities discovered significant damage to a car near the house and multiple bullet holes in the property itself during an investigation on Thursday afternoon, as reported by CBC.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment in Surrey confirmed receiving a report of the incident, stating that frontline officers responded to the scene and found evidence consistent with gunfire around 1:21 am on February 1.

In a statement, Surrey RCMP emphasized that their Major Crime Section is leading the investigation and believes the incident to be isolated.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, with Canadian law enforcement actively working to determine its cause.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Moninder Singh, representing the B.C. Gurdwaras Council, suggested a potential link between the shooting and Simranjeet Singh's association with Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Singh noted community speculation regarding the shooting's timing, occurring shortly after Simranjeet Singh's involvement in organizing a pro-Khalistan demonstration at the Indian consulate in Vancouver on Jan. 26.

Singh expressed concerns that the shooting might be an attempt to intimidate activists like Simranjeet Singh, attributing the act to alleged involvement by agents of the Indian government.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, based in Canada, was previously the president of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey. Nijjar, affiliated with the banned organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), was known for his advocacy for Khalistan and his involvement in initiatives like the Khalistan referendum in Brampton. He was fatally shot at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in British Columbia last year.
