UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has denounced the attack on the University of Karachi in Pakistan, which resulted in many casualties, said his Deputy Spokesman.
"I can tell you that the Secretary-General strongly condemns today's incident in Karachi," said Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq. In a daily news briefing on Tuesday, the Secretary-General offered his condolences to the victims' families and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
Haq said UN resident and humanitarian coordinator in Pakistan, Julien Harneis, also strongly condemned the incident and was very pained by the loss of life.
The UN Deputy Spokesman said, acts that purposefully target education, teachers, and institutions of learning are particularly condemnable, and he expressed his profound sympathies to the families of the victims in both Pakistan and China.
According to a Chinese Foreign Ministry official, an explosion ripped through a Confucius Institute shuttle passenger van at the University of Karachi on Tuesday, killing three Chinese teachers, injuring one Chinese teacher, and causing multiple Pakistani injuries.
