MANCHESTER: Erling Haaland increased his Premier League goal total to 33 and increased his lead in the battle for the Golden Boot with a late strike in Manchester City's 4-1 victory over Arsenal. The Norwegian eclipsed Mohammad Salah's 38-game record with a goal on Wednesday; the Egyptian scored 32 goals in 2017–18.

With 34 goals each in the seasons of 1993–1994 and 1994–1995 when there were 42 games in the calendar year, Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer presently hold the record for the entire Premier League period.

Just two more goals are needed for Haaland to secure the record outright with seven league games remaining.

Haaland's performance throughout his rookie season has been crucial to Pep Guardiola's team's success as they seek their third consecutive and fifth Premier League championship.

In his first 13 Premier League games of the year, he scored 18 goals, including hat-tricks against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United.

Haaland has maintained his impressive play since domestic football resumed after the World Cup, notching his fourth Premier League hat-trick against Wolves in January. He has scored eight goals in his last eight league games, which is a streak.

Haaland has already scored 49 goals in total this season, more than any other player at a Premier League team in all competitions. He surpasses the 44 goals scored by Salah in 2017/18 and Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2002–03.

With 11 goals in seven games, he is also the UEFA Champions League's top scorer this season.
