The wife of the mastermind behind the violence in Banbhoolpura, Haldwani, has been apprehended from a village in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, as informed by a senior police official on Thursday.

Safia was taken into custody from Biharipur village in Bareilly by Uttarakhand Police on Tuesday. According to Nainital SSP Prahlad Narayan Meena, she faces charges related to unlawful plotting, construction, and land transfer through criminal conspiracy in Malik Ka Bagicha area of Haldwani. These actions allegedly involved using the identity of a deceased individual to encroach upon government land.

Abdul Malik, her husband, and their son Abdul Moeed were previously detained, with arrests made on February 24 and February 28, respectively.

The violence erupted in Banbhoolpura, Haldwani, on February 8 following the demolition of a madrassa and mosque deemed 'illegally' constructed. The clashes resulted in six fatalities and over a hundred injuries, including police personnel and journalists.
