Ranchi: In a major operation on Sunday, Ranchi Police seized 117 bags of Doda from Tamar. The estimated value of the Doda is around Rs 4.50 crore. Police have arrested container driver Kesara Ram on charges of smuggling Doda. According to reports, this consignment of Doda was being transported from Khunti district to Rajasthan. The police received a tip-off from the Special Branch, following which they blocked all routes leading from Khunti to the Ranchi Highway. Meanwhile, the police spotted a container approaching and subsequently stopped and searched it. During the search, 117 bags of Doda were discovered in the container.
Police revealed that Kesara Ram, the accused in the Doda smuggling case, hails from Barmer district in Rajasthan. He was allegedly offered Rs 50,000 to transport the Doda to Rajasthan. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter. They stated that this is the first time the Rajasthan connection of drug smugglers from Jharkhand has been uncovered. The police are also coordinating with the Rajasthan Police regarding the incident. The Narcotics Control Bureau has been notified about the matter.
This marks the largest seizure of Doda in the year 2024. Each sack was filled with 25 kg of Doda. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) stated that the total value of the Doda in the international market is Rs 4.5 crore. This operation is a significant success for the Ranchi Police and has instilled fear among drug smugglers.
