Ganesh Acharya was born on 14 June 1971 in Mumbai. His father Gopi was a choreographer of the Hindi cinema. After the death of Ganesh's father, he left his studies and started learning dance due to money problems at home. At the age of just 12, he worked hard to open a dance academy and at the age of 19, he became an excellent dance choreographer. He made his Hindi cinema debut as a choreographer with the film Anam at the age of 21. In 2002, for the first time, Ganesh was nominated for his best choreography at the Screen Awards for the film Lajja. In 2007, he was awarded the Filmfare Award for the film Omkar.
