Amritsar: On Thursday, cricketer-turned-politician and AAP Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh renewed his call for the expansion of Amritsar Airport to better serve passengers traveling from Punjab to destinations like Canada and the USA.

Harbhajan Singh emphasized the need for a new terminal at the airport and an increase in direct flights to major international destinations. He highlighted the inconvenience faced by travelers who currently need to travel to Delhi to catch international flights, incurring additional costs for transportation and accommodation.

In an exclusive interview, Singh stated, "For the past three days, we have submitted a notice during zero-hour to discuss the expansion of Amritsar Airport. Many Punjabis traveling to Canada, the US, and other countries face difficulties due to the limited number of direct flights from Amritsar. They are forced to travel to Delhi, which adds to their expenses. We need a new terminal at Amritsar Airport and more flights directly to these international destinations."

Singh pointed out that approximately 10 lakh Punjabis live in Canada. He criticized the recent Canada-India flight agreement for not including Amritsar, stressing that expanding the airport would greatly benefit the Punjabi community.

Additionally, Singh criticized the BJP-led NDA government for its Union Budget 2024-25, accusing it of favoring only one or two states and neglecting others.
