Hardik Pandya can be a big factor in the World Cup: Kapil Dev

After performing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 12, Hardik would be expected to share a few more responsibilities in the quadrennial event – be it bowling 10 overs or giving India the finishing touch at No. 6 or No. 7. Kapil Dev, the 1983 World Cup winning Indian captain, also sees Hardik as a big factor in India's hopes for the 2019 edition.

It's the presence of Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar that has enabled the team management to field an extra spinner, knowing that the pair can easily fill the 4th pacer's void together.

As far as Kapil is concerned, he is of the opinion that Hardik has the ability to bowl 10 overs for the team, especially with his wicket-taking skills. His hitting ability, on the other hand, makes him a key player in the team.

“The most impressive part of the team is the manner in which the bowling unit has come together and is respected by all opposition. I think that Hardik Pandya is capable of making the captain entrust 10 overs to his fast-medium bowling in each game for his wicket-taking skills. In fact, with his clean hitting, he can be a big factor with the bat too, if he brings his natural game to the fore,” the legendary cricketer was quoted saying.

With injuries and suspensions limiting his playing time on the field for Team India, Hardik returned with a better version of himself when he took the field for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. More of the same would be expected from him when he dons the blue jersey for India in the World Cup.
