Today is the birthday of renowned flute player Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia once used to compose music for films in association with popular santoor player Shiv Kumar Sharma. The Shiva-Hari duo first worked for Madan Mohan in the song 'Phir Wahi Sham Wahi Gam' (Jahan Ara) in 1962 and continued to play flutes and santoors for most of the music directors of that time, apart from their classical concerts, for the next several years. Apparently, after this, his next position was to make his debut as a composer duo in Hindi films.

Due to this, it is said that while composing the background score for one of BR Chopra's films, BR Chopra's younger brother Yash Chopra came to him and asked him if he would like to work as a musician in his next film 'Kala Patthar' (1979).  The Shiva-Hari duo refused.

Till that time, Rajesh Roshan was giving the music for Yash Chopra's under-production film 'Kala Patthar', but due to the differences between the director and the music director, only two songs could be prepared for the film.  Yash Chopra was not ready to convince Rajesh Roshan and wanted Shiv-Hari, who was waiting for a break, to compose the remaining 4 songs of the film for him.  But Rajesh Roshan's father – Roshan, the popular musician of the bygone era, was an old friend of Hariprasad Chaurasia, and he flatly refused to take away the work of his friend's son.  Later, the remaining songs of 'Kala Patthar' were composed by Rajesh Roshan and the background score of the film was given by Salil Chaudhary.
