Hariyali Teej holds its important place in Hinduism. On this day, married women fast for the long life of their husbands and Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are worshiped. Let's know why women observe this fast and what is the mythological stories related to it?

According to a popular legend of Hariyali Teej, this story was narrated by Shiva to Goddess Parvati to commemorate her past lives. Shiva Ji tells Goddess that you were born 107 times to get me as a husband but in 108th birth, you succeeded in doing so. Shiva Ji tells Goddess that your 108th birth was at the home of the mountain Himalayas. In this birth, you did hard penance for my attainment. You even gave up food and water to get me and only you survived on the leaves. In every season, you stood firm on your resolve. Due to this, your father used to live in Himalayan pain, and one day Narada reached your house and he said that Lord Vishnu sent him here. Then Narada Ji from Himalaya, father of Goddess Parvati, as the messenger of Vishnu, said that God has sent a marriage proposal to Parvati Ji.

Vishnu Ji was very happy with the devotion of Goddess and her father also wanted to marry Parvati Ji with Vishnu, although when this news came to Goddess Parvati, she was troubled by it. Shiv Ji further said that you said this to your friend and she hid you in the thick forest. Where you worshiped me by making a Shivling with sand. On the other hand, your father kept searching for you, but he could not reach you because you are absorbed in my devotion.

Shiva Ji further told Goddess Parvati that I was very happy to see your devotion and then I fulfilled your wish. When your father reached the cave in search of you, at that time you spoke your mind to your father. In which you said that I have chosen Shiva as my husband. So now I will go with you on only one condition and that condition is that you consent to marry me with Shiva. At this, Goddess Parvati's father agreed, and then Shiva-Parvati got married. On the day of Hariyali Teej, Shiv Ji told this story to Goddess Parvati.
