How was the name given Hatalika Teej
There is a legend behind the name Hartalika Teej. Hartalika's name made up of two words. The first word Hara means to abduct someone. Talika's meaning is Sakhi or Saheli. It is believed that Mata Parvati was taken away from her father's house by her friend in the forest and this day was later known as Hartalika Teej. Goddess Parvati had done severe penance and stayed in the forest to get Shiva as her husband. While Goddess Parvati wanted to get Shiva as her husband and her father wanted her to marry to Vishnu. In such a situation, her friend took her away into the forest. Parvati formed a Shivling with sand and absorbed in devotion to Shiva. Shiva appeared pleased with her austerity, Lord Shiva accepted Parvati as his wife. Goddess Parati got Shiva as her husband in her 108th birth.
Usually, this fast is kept by married women, although this fast can also be kept by unmarried girls. Unmarried girls to get a suitable groom keep this fast.
