Most people do not know the real name of Nana Patekar, his real name is Vishwanath Patekar. He was born on 01 January 1951 in Bombay, now called Mumbai, into a middle-class Marathi family. His father Dankar Patekar was a painter. Nana was fond of acting from the beginning. He started taking acting education along with assuming consciousness. He completed his studies from the JJ School of Arts in Mumbai. During this time he used to take part in plays organized by the college. His childhood has been spent in poverty.

He used to work 8 km on foot for painting film posters at Rs 35 a month. When it was time to eat food, he would deliberately go to the house of his friends and acquaintances, in the hope that someone would give them bread to eat. In the film world, Nana is a name that is not an introduction. He enjoyed many challenging roles in his film career which was well received by the audience. His fans are in large numbers not only in India but also abroad, the role he played on the big screen is still alive in the hearts of his fans. A dialogue of his film 'A mosquito makes a man a eunuch' still prevails on people's tongues. His acting has been a feature that he is always suitable for any kind of role. In the film 'Khamoshi', as a mute or as a mentally deranged villain in a movie like 'Parinda' and 'Angar' or in a film like 'Tiranga' or 'Krantivir', all these roles in action.

Nana Patekar started his film career with the 1978 film 'Gaman'. In this film, the audience did not notice him, but he say that the talent cannot hide for long, in the same way, he was also forced to make the audience notice himself on the basis of his talent. In 1984, he worked with Raj Babbar as the film 'Aaj Ki Awaaz'. The film was entirely focused on Rajbar, yet he managed to leave a mark of his acting by playing a seductive character.
