Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and his wife took the first dose of coronavirus vaccine at the Delhi Heart and Lung Institute on Tuesday. The minister's wife Nutan Goel first took the jab after which Vardhan received the vaccine shot.

Vardhan ysterday had appealed to all those aged 60 and above and aged 45 and above having specified co-morbidities to immediately take the vaccine.

Vardhan told people not to have any doubts about the vaccine underlining no death has occurred till now due to the anti-coronavirus vaccination in the country.

Vardhan said that if any death occurs a few days after receiving the jab, it cannot be linked to vaccination because each such death is being scientifically probed.

India opened up vaccination for those over 60 years and within the age bracket of 45 to 59 years with specified co-morbidities from March 1.

The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday informed that a total of 1,48,54,136 people in the country have been vaccinated against COVID-19 so far. As many as 12,286 new COVID-19 cases and 91 deaths were reported in India in the last 24 hours. With 12,464 fresh recoveries, the cumulative discharges reached 1,07,98,921.The total coronavirus caseload in the country has gone up to 1,11,24,527, including 1,68,358 active cases and 1,57,248 deaths.
