BANGALORE: Heavy rain continued to pound Karnataka on Tuesday and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for the state that heavy rain is expected for the next three days.

The state's residents are no longer in a celebratory mood because of the constant rain. Tuesday is the festival of the goddess Gowri, while Wednesday is Vinayak Chaturthi in Karnataka. The temporary tent stores set up on the streets for festivals have been destroyed.

According to an estimate, crops grown in over 5000 hectares of land have come under water in Raichur district alone. Nimbavva Negaluru (48), died on the spot after the wall of the house reportedly collapsed in Tumarikoppa village of Hanagal taluk in Haveri district on Monday late night.

Due to the constant rain, traffic is backed up on the Mysuru-Bangaloe highway. Due to Tuesday's significant rainfall, the government has closed the primary and secondary schools in the districts of Koppal, Gadag, and Vijayanagar.
The deployed personnel of State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) have rescued eight persons from a house inundated with water in Chamarajanagar district.

The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Ramnagar, Chamarajanagar, Tumakuru, Ballary and Chitradurga.
