Tamil Nadu:  In the wake of ongoing heavy rainfalls in the isolated places of Tamil Nadu, schools and colleges in Thanjavur and Pudukkottai districts will remain closed on Saturday, District Collectors said.

Heavy rain lashed Thanjavur and Pudukkottai districts as a result of the Depression developed over the southwest Bay of Bengal, forcing the closure of schools and colleges in the areas.

Schools and institutions in the state's Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur districts were closed earlier on Thursday due to heavy rains. In the Thiruvarur district, only the closure of schools were declared, whereas the Nagapattinam district announced a one-day holiday for schools and colleges.

IMD reported that during the afternoon of Wednesday, a low over the southwest Bay of Bengal moved west-southwest and crossed the Sri Lankan coast.

Over Tamil Nadu's Comorin and the surrounding areas, low pressure and its associated cyclonic circulation continue to exist.

Notably, according to IMD, On Friday, Heavy Rainfall of one centimetre was registered in Tamil Nadu's Attransapattinam and Cuddaloce districts.
