Gujarat: Parts of Gujarat are facing severe disruptions due to heavy rainfall, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for continuous downpours throughout the state.

According to the latest forecast by the IMD, inclement weather is anticipated to persist for the next four to five days. The orange alert has been raised for Wednesday and Thursday (July 19 and July 20), indicating an increased risk of extreme weather conditions.

Furthermore, a heavy rain warning has been issued for multiple districts in South Gujarat and Saurashtra over the next 24 hours.

Torrential rains have unleashed their fury across various regions of the state, including Ahmedabad since Tuesday, July 18.

The downpours have created chaos in Surat, where an astonishing three inches of rain fell within a mere two-hour window on Tuesday morning. Consequently, extensive waterlogging has occurred in several areas of the diamond city, severely disrupting traffic flow.

While Surat endured the brunt of this heavy rainfall, rural areas in Gujarat also suffered greatly.

In Rajkot's Dhoraji, an astounding 9.5 inches of rainfall was recorded within a span of just six hours, resulting in severe flooding across the entire city.
Similarly, the Jamkandorna taluka in Rajkot witnessed the highest recorded rainfall within a two-hour period. Between 6 PM and 8 PM on Tuesday, an astonishing 144 mm of rain soaked the region.

Areas such as Udhana Darwaja, Udhna Garnala, Udhna Char Rasta, Limbayat, and Dhumbal have been heavily affected by the deluge, leading to widespread waterlogging.

Responding to the rapid accumulation of rainwater, the underpass at Udhna Railway Station had to be temporarily closed, causing further inconvenience for commuters.
