In response to heavy rainfall in certain districts, authorities have declared a holiday for educational institutions in the southern states of Kerala and Karnataka. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued alerts for various districts in these states due to the expected torrential rains.

Kerala: Today, schools and colleges in Kannur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts of Kerala will remain closed. An Orange alert was issued for these districts, indicating a high possibility of heavy rains. Additionally, a Yellow alert was announced for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Malappuram districts.

It's worth noting that the closure does not apply to the Kannur University PSC exams, which will proceed as scheduled despite the holiday.

Karnataka:Similarly, in Dharwad district of Karnataka, due to incessant rainfall, all primary schools, high schools, Pre-University (PU) colleges, and degree colleges will be closed for the day. The IMD has predicted rain in most parts of Karnataka over the next 48 hours, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in several districts, including Dharwad.

The weather department has issued a statement warning of heavy rain at isolated places in Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal, and Yadgir districts of North Interior Karnataka, as well as in Hassan and Ballari districts of South Interior Karnataka.

North India:  On another note, the IMD forecasts a return of heavy rainfall in North Indian states such as Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, starting from Tuesday. The northwest region of India has already experienced 40% more rainfall than usual between 1st June and 23rd July, with east Uttar Pradesh being the only exception, experiencing a rainfall deficiency of 29% during the same period.

The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of heavy rainfall and potential floods.
