In a delightful nod to Indian culture, the White House recently hosted a reception commemorating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. Among the highlights of the event was the enchanting performance of 'Sare Jahan Se Accha Hindustan Hamara', a beloved Indian patriotic anthem, by the White House's Marine Band.

This isn't the first time the iconic song has graced the White House halls. Previously, it was played during the State Visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2023, underscoring the enduring bond between the United States and India, as noted by Indian-American community leader Ajay Jain Bhutoria.

The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by the inclusion of Indian street food favorites, such as golgappa (pani puri) and khoya (sweetmeat), on the menu. This culinary homage to India was met with enthusiasm by attendees, including Bhutoria, who expressed delight at being greeted by the familiar strains of 'Sare Jahan Se Accha'.

Reflecting on the occasion, Bhutoria shared his appreciation for the flavorsome golgappa served at the reception, revealing that even the White House executive chef, Cristeta Comerford, had a hand in preparing the delicacies. Bhutoria speculated that the growing popularity of golgappa in the US could be attributed to American officials sampling the beloved street food during their visits to India.

As the White House continues to celebrate diversity and cultural exchange, events like these serve as reminders of the rich tapestry of traditions that contribute to the nation's vibrant heritage.
